Slim right after birth? There are!
How does that work? Perhaps some of these miracle mothers delivered their babies by Caesarean section (including tummy tuck) weeks before the due date to save the last few kilograms of pregnancy? Is cheating on one image or another using Photoshop? Perhaps. But a depressing truth remains:
They exist. Even if you do not want to hear it. Some women naturally have such good connective tissue and so little during pregnancy that they can actually squeeze back into their old skinny jeans shortly after the birth . "That's a question of genes," says Dr. med. Ansgar Römer, established gynecologist from Mannheim. Prerequisite for this miracle: "Even before birth, these women had a very good, well-trained figure," explains the gynecologist. So you build on a fantastic foundation. Like Heidi Klum or Victoria Beckham. And after the birth? Take an iron program. "This is only possible with hard diets and with a lot of sports," says physiotherapist Karin Kalbantner-Wernicke, who cares for many young mothers in her practice. "It takes a nutritionist, a fitness coach and a full-time nanny."
Not everyone has the same requirements
The great mass of other women has unfavorable starting opportunities, has neither a stable of employees nor a dream body. And there, says Romans, "can not be done too much. That's just nature ". Women would also get their babies "much later than they used to, but by the early '20s a body recovers faster from the signs of pregnancy than it did at the beginning of 40".
That sounds relieving. Yet, it does not take the pressure of many of those women who look after birth the way mothers usually feel. Why is it so difficult to accept that? "After puberty, pregnancy is the second major phase of change in a woman's life," explains Römer. "The body changes enormously under the hormonal influences, some of which can not be turned back." Especially in the case of retired women, the end of the pregnancy almost coincides with the onset of menopause: likewise a period of physical change in which some women no longer lose weight so easily. Big upheavals shaking the self-image. Exactly before that, most of the women seem to be afraid.
Fear of kilos can lead to dysfunctions
The results of a study by the Institute of Child Health at University College London made scientists jump: from more than 700 pregnant women, one in four said they were afraid of gaining weight. Every tenth showed signs of an eating disorder, starved, had bingeing, deliberately vomited or exercised a lot. Every 15th pregnant woman was said to be eating disorders.
Conclusion of the researchers: The dissatisfaction of women is also related to the picture of the perfect pregnant women. Round tummy under a glamorous robe, stroked by manicured hands: Stars are not only beautiful after birth – but also during pregnancy. From the first moment, women face a mix of demands: they have to be sexy. Maternal. Slim. Cool. The result: "The naturalness is lost," says Kalbantner-Wernicke. In his practice, gynecologist Römer increasingly observes women "who do not enjoy their pregnancy, who become nervous at every watering-in and every kilo".
To look short after the birth as before, one way or another only with the hardest self-restraint. It is not healthy. "If you strain your pelvic floor too early, you have to expect late effects, such as bladder weakness," says Kalbantner-Wernicke. Romans knows another unpleasant consequence. "In the puerperium, the metabolism of the body is reversed, and those who lose weight now really get the yo-yo effect going." No thanks, Heidi. Then spend a few relaxed months a few pounds too much on the scales!
